Violoniste virtuose, pionnier du jazz rock, il a su inventer son propre style musical en développant, dans les années 1970, un univers riche et varié, en combinant toutes ses racines , du classique au progressif en passant par le jazz, la pop, le folk et même l'électronique. Il a collaboré avec les plus grands musiciens de l'époque dont Frank Zappa, John McLaughin, George Duke, Allan Holdsworth.
